1/48 Tamiya F-51D MustangPublished by Admin on 2006/3/18 (636 reads)
INTRODUCTION
FF-736 is an F-51D Mustang from the 12th Fighter Bomber Squadron, 18th Fighter Bomber Group based in Pusan, South Korea. Production infromation says this mustang was built as a P-51D-30NT in Dallas, TX. CONSTRUCTION Well, I won't go into detail on the P-51D build. It's a Tamiya for gosh sake! My usual out-of-the-box build. The only real change to the normal routine was to drill out the gun barrels and exhaust stacks. PAINT / DECALS The yellow/blue banding on the the wing tip, stabelizer tips and rudder tips are all masked and painted using Model Master Enamels. I went back to my usual NMF mix of Floquils for this one.......no more Model Master Metalizers for me. The decals were from Aeromaster. Thanks to Steve Stohr at North American Hobbies for letting me have his extra set. I didn't have to use the kit decals then. WRAP-UP Overall, these Tamiya Stangs are a good build. One SNAFU on the Tamiya D is their sprue setup for the clear canopies. You have to be careful when cutting the bubble portion off, then sand and polish.
